Western Australian public schools have local-intake areas. Children who live within a school’s boundary are guaranteed a place at that school.
Kindergarten and Pre-primary
In WA, Kindergarten is a part-time program in the year a child turns four, and Pre-primary is the first full-time, compulsory year of school. Both are delivered through primary schools, so enrolment usually happens at the local primary school.
How to check the local school
The department provides a school search and boundary information on its website. Contact the school directly to confirm the boundary for your address.
Out-of-area applications
Schools may accept students from outside the local-intake area if they have room. Specialist programs, such as gifted and talented programs in some high schools, have separate selection processes.
Documents you will need

- an immunisation history statement (most states ask for one at enrolment)
- visa and passport details if the child or parents are not Australian citizens
- any family law or parenting orders, and health or learning support information
