Queensland state schools that face enrolment pressure operate an enrolment management plan (EMP). The plan defines a catchment area, and students whose principal place of residence is inside it are entitled to enrol.
How to check a catchment
Catchment maps are published for schools with an EMP. Search the school in the Queensland Schools Directory or on the school’s own website. Schools without an EMP generally accept local students without a catchment test.
Proof of address
Schools with an EMP usually ask for stronger proof of residence, for example a lease plus utility accounts in your name. Using a temporary address to get into a catchment can lead to the enrolment being cancelled.
Out-of-catchment enrolment
Out-of-catchment applications may be accepted if the school has space after in-catchment students are placed. Some schools also run special programs, such as academic, sport or arts excellence programs, with their own entry processes.
Documents you will need
- proof of the child’s age and identity, such as a birth certificate or passport
- proof of your residential address, such as a lease, council rates notice or utility bills
- an immunisation history statement (most states ask for one at enrolment)
- visa and passport details if the child or parents are not Australian citizens
- any family law or parenting orders, and health or learning support information
