Tasmanian government schools serve defined intake areas, and families usually enrol at the local school for their address.

School structure

Children attend part-time Kindergarten before starting Prep, the first full-time year. Most high schools run to Year 10; Years 11 and 12 are offered at colleges and a growing number of high schools with senior extensions.

Requests for another school

You can ask to enrol outside your intake area. Requests are considered against the school’s capacity and the department’s enrolment policy.

Documents you will need

  • proof of the child’s age and identity, such as a birth certificate or passport
